While a lot of people find new things so attractive, there are others that simply love retro clothes. These clothes normally look worn and old. Although buying retro ready-made clothes is possible, there are limited choices with regard to hats and accessories. Old looking hat will simply look great if paired with a retro clothes and shoes. Buying a new hat and make it look retro is possible. Here are some tips on how to make a new hat look old and worn out.

If you want to know how to make a new hat look old and worn out, there are many different ways to do that. First of all, make sure that you buy a hat that is made of cloth. Learning how to make a new hat look old and worn out is easy if you have a hat made of cloth. Since clothes can look worn out if it shrink, your goal is to shrink it. There are many ways to shrink a hat. You can wash it in a dishwasher using warm water or in a washing machine and dry it using a dryer. You can also boil some water and dip the hat for a while. Make sure that the size of the hat is bigger so that once it shrinks it will be perfect for your head.

You may also want to consider bleaching it to make the colors fade. You can actually bleach your hat without sacrificing its design by carefully watching the amount of bleach you put on it. What you need to do is to mix a few drops of bleach with water and spray it on the hat. Make sure that you spray it evenly. Spray a little water at a time being careful not to make it too wet; it might ruin the hat if you do this. Your goal is to make it washed out a bit. Once you have reached the color that you desire, wash it immediately.

While it may already look old being faded and shrink, you can also mutilate it a bit to make it look all worn out. You can use a sand paper to sand some of the shiny parts like metals and labels. Shiny metals and buttons, if not sanded, will give an impression of being new. Since you want it old, deformed some of it and sand it well to make it blurry.

Another way on how to make a new hat look old and worn out is to do some damage to it. You can bend it in some way, pull a mesh, cut some fringes, fray the edges or cut a small strip. You can cut a hole and manually pull the strings. In some cases, burning some parts of it can have a very nice effect. Be careful not to overdo it though, it might end up unusable if you do too much damage to it. The idea is to make it look worn out and not worthy to be worn anymore.
